“Our company is called Abril (April in Spanish) because this is the month when the olive trees start to flower after the winter, and also in honour of the April Fair in Seville that our father Manuel loved so much, as this is where he would go to meet all of the producers from the olive oil sector, where they’d talk about the harvest that had ended just a few days before the fair, and make all the necessary arrangements for the business transactions for that year.
Aceites Abril was founded in 1962, when our grandfather, José Pérez Delgado, who worked in the wine business, sent our father Manuel to buy a factory in Mora de Toledo which had a cellar and a press. Our father decided to use these facilities to produce the wine and olive oil that was so abundant in that part of Spain. He then transported the oil in tanker trucks to our packaging plant in the industrial quarter of A Ponte in Ourense, where it was bottled and sold.
In 1997 we moved our oil packaging plant to the San Cibrao industrial quarter in Ourense, where we now have modern facilities that have been extended over the last few years, and where we package and distribute our oil to more than 30 countries, offering maximum guarantees in terms of quality and environmental care.”

The main function of Aceites Abril’s R&D&I (Research, Development and Innovation) department is to create new, high quality products to satisfy the needs of the most demanding consumers.
As a result of the creative efforts of our R&D&I team, Aceites Abril has launched specialities such as Auris or Gotas de Abril. These are fragrant, fruity olive oils that add a touch of flavour and sophistication to haute cuisine dishes. An innovation that can also be seen in our different formats, such as olive oil sprays adapted to new consumer trends.
An intensive research programme carried out by Aceites Abril has made it possible to recover the cultivation of olive trees in Galicia, selecting Arbequina and Picual as the most ideal varieties, and studying plots of land with suitable microclimates.
Since it was founded, Aceites Abril has re-invested part of its profits to ensure its continued growth.
